- ArtBridge: An Arts Program for Homeless Children – Founded in 1999 by two art therapists, ArtBridge brings the expressive arts into the lives of children in Houston-area homeless shelters. The mission of ArtBridge is to provide art programs for homeless children within a supportive environment that encourages creativity. The program strives to combat the despair of homelessness by nurturing hope and self-esteem through the joy of art expression. ArtBridge serves a population of children already exposed to serious losses and pain such as family upheaval, chaos, neglect and often domestic violence. ArtBridge supports children and their families who struggle every day against tremendous obstacles to provide for their basic needs. Serving approximately 2000 homeless children each year, ArtBridge is expanding and hoping to serve 3000 children in 2008.
